The U.S. Department of Education has awarded the North Central Educational Opportunity Center (NCEOC) at Mount Wachusett Community College with a five-year, $1.18 million grant that will help adults in the region successfully transition to college or other postsecondary education.
The NCEOC was created in 2002 through federal funding, with additional financial and in-kind support from the college. It is designed to support first generation college students and those with income challenges.
The NCEOC program serves 1,000 adults from all over North Central Massachusetts at MWCC’s Gardner and Leominster campuses. Two-thirds of the participants are low-income, first-generation college students.
The center provides free and confidential client-centered services in English and Spanish tailored to the needs of each participant, including assistance with applying to the public or private college, university or vocational school of their choice, applying for financial aid, and academic and career counseling. The program assists students no matter where they plan to go to school.
