Nichols College has received a $1-million gift from 1980 graduate and Nichols trustee Stephen A. Davis that will go towards scholarships for Western Massachusetts-based students as well as construction costs for a new academic building.

A resident of Longmeadow and president of Springfield-based Ventry Industries, half of the donation will go towards a scholarship fund in Davis’ name that will benefit undergraduate students from the Western Massachusetts counties of Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire. The other $500,000 will go toward paying off construction costs of the new academic building, which opened last fall on Center Road.

Davis said in a release he wanted to give back to his alma mater in a personal, meaningful way by endowing a scholarship designed for students from Western Massachusetts, where he grew up and currently resides.
