Reality TV show to film in Marlborough

A reality television show that combines cross country travel in flashy cars and trivia based on the communities on the journey will be coming to Marlborough in October.

“We’ve had Hollywood film productions take place here before, but nothing that showcases our city in such a direct way,” Meredith Harris, executive director of the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), said in a statement.

The Fireball Run show will film in the city Oct. 1 from 12 to 2 p.m. to coincide with the city’s annual Heritage Festival and Oktoberfest celebrations, according to a release from the MEDC. About 150 cast and crew will make their way through downtown Marlborough along Main Street, as well as a number of other currently undisclosed locations around the city, according to the organization. Mayor Arthur Vigeant will give an interview in front of City Hall.

The footage will be used to create a 5 to 15 minute segment for the television show that is an 8-day, 2,000-mile life-size trivial pursuit game that features city history, places and sites. Forty driving teams compete to solve clues that lead to points of interest, where contestants can complete challenges and win points.

The show has approximately 4 million viewers and is currently streamed on Roku, iTunes, Amazon Prime, and Google Play, with a pending agreement to include Netflix.
