Worcester on the hook for $10M skybridge

A judge has ordered Worcester to begin immediate work on completing a skybridge that could cost up to $10 million, but the city has cited $1.5 million in unpaid parking as it plans to investigate the judgement.
“As there are several key issues yet to be determined at trial, including the hotel’s failure to pay for parking in the Major Taylor garage, a debt to the city which is now valued at $1.5 million, this decision is not a final judgement and not immediately appealable,” City Manager Edward Augustus said in a statement.
The city received the judgement on Sept. 9 ordering it to complete a skybridge connecting the nearby parking garage to the Hilton Garden Inn and then to the DCU Center. According to MassLive, the city agreed 13 years ago to build the bridge -- with construction valued between $4 and $10 million -- if Fargo Management LLC built the hotel, and the company sued the city when it did not follow through and ceased paying for parking in 2007 in response to the lack of construction.
Augustus said as the city reviews the order, it would continue to work towards a mutually agreeable resolution.
