Plymouth nuclear plant back online

The plant was offline for 12 days.
After addressing valve and mechanical issues that kept it offline since Sept. 5, workers at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth fully repowered the plant over the weekend.
Entergy Pilgrim Station reported Monday morning that control room operators reconnected the plant to the electrical grid on Saturday and the plant reached 100 percent power at 2:39 a.m. on Monday.
A feedwater regulating valve was repaired, an additional feedwater regulating valve was evaluated, a safety-relief-valve pilot valve was replaced, a turning gear in the main turbine was replaced, and other maintenance work was conducted during the two-week shutdown, officials said.
“Our priority focus at Pilgrim Station is always safety,” site vice president John Dent said in a statement Monday. “Our operators followed detailed procedures to shut the plant down safely, and we used conservative decision-making to complete the work needed for future safe and reliable operation.”
The plant, which produces 680 megawatts of carbon-free electricity, is scheduled to shut down for good by May 31, 2019. A refueling is planned next spring.
