Local manufacturers receive $800K in training grants

Central Massachusetts companies and a Worcester industry organization received just over $800,000 in funds from a state workforce development fund to train existing workers and develop new jobs, the Baker Administration announced last week.

The largest grant of $248,660 was awarded to Trelleborg Sealing Solutions US in Northborough. The funds will be used to train 178 workers and add 15 jobs by 2018, according to the Baker Administration.

The Worcester-based Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership, an industry group, received two grants: one for $151,016 to train 93 workers and create nine jobs at five Western Massachusetts companies, and a second grant for $49,280 to train 43 workers and add 6 jobs at Mayfield Plastics, Inc. in Sutton, OTS, FITEL LLC in Sturbridge, Lowell Corp. in West Boylston, and Quabbin Wire & Cable Co. in Ware.

In total, companies across the commonwealth received $2.4 million in workforce training grants to 25 companies for the training of 2,162 workers and the creation of 263 new jobs. Here are the other companies in Central Massachusetts that received grant money:

  • Columbia Tech was awarded $246,970 to train 230 workers; 25 additional jobs expected by 2018.
  • Nouria Energy Services, Inc. was awarded $129,684 to train 126 workers; 20 additional jobs expected by 2018. This grant was awarded to a consortium of businesses which includes Nouria Energy Retail, Inc. of Worcester.
