Worcester’s Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership has received $250,000 in advanced manufacturing training program grants in the latest round of $1.45 million in training awards.

“With a looming skills shortage that will be compounded by retiring baby boomers leaving the labor force, we are finding ways to invest in the skill development of individuals who are unemployed or underemployed, and those who are joining the labor force for the first time,” said Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Ronald L. Walker, II.

According to information from the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, MassMEP was a highly performing project in the last grant round, training 21 people and placing 15 in jobs.

MassMEP also recently received a separate award of $135,915 in the most recent round of Skills Capital Grants focused on providing unemployed and under-employed individuals with skills needed to work in automated plants, including mechanical ability, pneumatics and hydraulics, mechanical prints and troubleshooting methodologies.
