NORESCO nets $25M energy contract

The United States Penitentiary in Marion, Illinois will be the recipient of improvements as part of a $25 million contract NORESCO recently secured.
Westborough’s NORESCO has been awarded a $25 million contract that will cover improvements to two federal prisons.
The contract will cover work at the United States Penitentiary (USP) in Marion, Illinois, and the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Milan, Michigan. The two sites will receive energy and water efficiency and capital infrastructure upgrades through an energy savings performance contract, according to a release from NORESCO.
The ESPC project should reduce water consumption by 33 percent and electricity use by 20 percent at USP Marion and should reduce water consumption by 40 percent and electricity use by 22 percent at FCI Milan. These improvements are expected to result in over $1.2 million in annual cost savings.
The project is funded entirely through guaranteed savings, requiring no upfront capital investment from the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Since 2003, NORESCO has contracted with the Federal Bureau of Prisons for more than $130 million in building system improvements funded by savings from energy and water reductions.
