Devens adds 33 acres for industrial development

Courtesy of Quiet Logistics Quiet Logistics packages and ships apparel from its Devens warehouses seven days a week. More companies could join the business in Devens following a recent vote opening up 33 acres to industrial development.

At a Super Town Meeting Monday night in Ayer, Harvard and Shirley, voters approved the rezoning of a 32.7-acre portion of Devens land from residential for innovation and technology uses, opening up the land to commercial development.

“Tonight’s approval… will create opportunities for biotech, light industrial and R&D companies to locate their larger facilities in Devens, boosting jobs and economic activity in the region,” MassDevelopment President and CEO Marty Jones said in a statement.

The vote came as a result of a MassDevelopment effort to rezone 32.7 acres of residential land in the vicinity of Beech and Plum Streets for innovation and technology business uses. The rezoning along with existing land creates more than 40 acres suitable for office, industrial, and research and development uses, according to MassDevelopment.

The site is now the largest commercial development site currently available at Devens.
