Mass. launches small biz. electricity shopping website

Photo Courtesy Solect Energy The website will allow people to select their energy provider using a multitude of criteria including how much renewable is used.

The state has launched Energy Switch Massachusetts, an interactive online tool designed to help small businesses and residential customers to purchase electricity from the competitive market.

The Energy Switch website allows licensed competitive suppliers to list multiple products, allowing shoppers to compare products based on price, length of contract, renewable energy resource content, and additional products and services. Also included is insight into costs such as cancellation fees, and provides an estimated monthly cost for each of the products listed on the website.

“This tool will not only allow residents to choose a price and contract length that works best for them, but also choose how much of their electricity is produced by renewable energy resources,” Gov. Charlie Baker said in a statement.

The website is part of an ongoing effort by state officials to help consumers manage their energy costs, according to a release from the Baker-Polito Administration, and follows the recent release of the Commonwealth Energy Tool for Savings (energyCENTS), a web platform for searching available energy saving opportunities such as energy rebates, incentives, loans and tax credits.
