Central Mass. companies to be awarded Tuesday

The Maynard headquarters of Acacia Communications at Clock Tower Place is one of four company locations, with the others in California, New Jersey and Ireland. Acacia is one of three Central Massachusetts companies that will be honored this Tuesday.

Three Central Massachusetts companies will be honored Tuesday at the 13th annual Massachusetts Economic Impact Awards for their contributions to the region’s economy.

The annual awards from the state's private sector partner in promoting business growth in Massachusetts will be held in Boston on Tuesday, Nov. 22. The awards, given out to 14 businesses, are intended to recognize companies making investments and growing their presence in Massachusetts.

Acacia Communications of Maynard will be recognized for a $5.6 million expansion that added 68 new jobs. Acacia took home the silver prize in the Central Massachusetts region.

The other winners in the region were Bristol-Myers Squibb, which received gold for expanding its Devens location to include a biologics development facility. The company invested $280 million in the 210,000 square-foot expansion and added 660 jobs. Woonsocket Glass Fabricators of Whitinsville received the bronze award for moving from Rhode Island to Massachusetts where it invested $10 million in 33,000 square-feet of space and added 31 jobs.

The companies were selected on the basis of job growth, facility expansion, investment, and community involvement since Jan. 1, 2015.
