Spectrum launches addiction podcast

Courtesy Spectrum Health Systems will host a weekly podcast titled, "Airing Addictions," which will be available internationally through iTunes and SoundCloud.

Worcester-based Spectrum Health Systems this week launched an international podcast on addiction and recovery on iTunes and SoundCloud, the addiction treatment provider announced on Monday.

A weekly educational program, “Airing Addiction” will feature stories of people’s challenges and triumphs over addiction, as well as air expert opinion on important and controversial topics related to to addiction and recovery, according to Spectrum.

The program is produced and recorded by the Worcester AM radio station WTAG. Donna Pellegrino, vice president of business development at Spectrum, is the host.

“Alcohol and drug addiction affects millions of people not only in the U.S. but abroad as well. Access to education, increased awareness, expert advice from those helping to treat the disease and testimonials of hope can be an important first step in the right direction and an ongoing resource for many individuals and family members facing this disease,” Spectrum CEO Kurt Isaacson said in a statement.

The first episode on Monday featured a discussion about medication-assisted treatment for people with opioid addiction with Dr. Jeffrey Baxter, Spectrum’s chief medical officer.
