Fitchburg human services nonprofit LUK Inc. has named Beth Barto as its new chief executive officer, according to an announcement from the agency.

Barto will begin serving as CEO on Jan. 1, the nonprofit said last week. She joined LUK in 2006 and currently serves as the director of quality assurance and director of trauma services for the organization.

Barto, a licensed mental health counselor, was selected following a national search for a successor after Richard Hooks Wayman resigned to join the Children’s Defense Fund in Washington D.C. as its national executive director.

Veteran employee David Hamolsky has led the organization since Hooks Wayman left in July. He will return to his post as clinical director in January.
