Worcester State to dedicate STEM center to $1M donor

Worcester State University will honor an alumnus who donated $1 million to fund STEM research and education with a classroom dedication ceremony at the Ghosh Science and Tech Building on Jan. 30.

Dr. Imoigele P. Aisiku, a 1992 WSU graduate, donated the money in the fall, establishing the  Aisiku STEM Center, which will  house a year-long research program designed to enrich students’ understanding of STEM fields in preparation for graduate school, among other initiatives, WSU said in a statement on Monday.

Aisiku is an Auburn native and graduate of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He was part of the critical care team in a Houston hospital that treated former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords after she was tragically shot, and is now a critical care and emergency medicine physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard University, where he is also a faculty member.
