Plainridge slots brought state $12M in January
The state's slots parlor generated more than $12.1 million in revenue last month, with $5.95 million of it going to local aid or a horse racing fund, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission announced Wednesday.
Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville, the first and so far only gambling facility to open under the 2011 expanded gaming law, generated $12,146,434.45 in gross gaming revenue last month from $152,212,710.16 in wagers. The haul was about $500,000 shy of December's revenue total but in line with other months.
Plainridge is taxed on 49 percent of its gross gaming revenue, with 82 percent of the tax levy going to local aid and the remaining 18 percent to the state's Race Horse Development Fund.
Gamblers have wagered $3.16 billion since the slots parlor opened in June 2015, the commission said, and the state has collected $125.15 million in state taxes and race horse assessments.
The commission has also licensed full-scale casinos that are being built in Springfield and Everett. MGM Springfield is expected to open its doors in September 2018 and the Wynn Resorts casino in Everett is expected to open in June 2019.
With two casinos complementing the Plainridge slots parlor, Gaming Commission Chairman Steve Crosby has said Massachusetts can expect to pull in about $300 million in annual gaming revenue.
