Solect acquires Northeast division of rival

Solect COO Jim Dumas (right) and Chief Development Officer Craig Huntley. Solect has bought the Northeast division of a rival company, Brightergy.

Solect, a Hopkinton solar energy developer and installer, has bought the Northeast division of industry rival Brightergy, Solect announced Tuesday.

The deal includes Brightergy's Northeast sales and project management operations and some of the company's intellectual property developed around commercial solar lead generation.

No financial terms were disclosed.

Brightergy, which is based in Kansas City, has regional offices in the Charlestown area of Boston.

Brightergy's work has included several rooftop solar-panel systems completed last year at UMass Amherst. The sale of the company's Northeast division is part of a broader plan to narrow its focus on the Midwest, Solect said in an announcement of the deal.

Solect will grow to 75 employees after adding 15 from Brightergy. The company, which started in 2009, grew outside Massachusetts for the first time last year with expansion into Connecticut and Rhode Island.
