WPI opens biomanufacturing training enrollment

Courtesy/WPI Worcester Polytechnic Institute is offering an eight-week biomanufacturing training program starting April 24.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute opened enrollment for a training program for people who want to work in the biotech sector but don’t necessarily have the experience.

The eight-week program, called the Fundamentals of Biomanufacturing accelerated training program, begins April 24. Participants will get hands-on exposure to all of the processes involved in commercial biomanufacturing, including elements of fermentation, media preparation, centrifugation, buffer preparation, purification, aseptic processing in a biosafety cabinet, and others.

Students will also learn how to work under the “current Good Manufacturing Practices” set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which regulate medicine production.

Anyone interested in participating or learning more about the program should get in touch with Ryan Brennan at 508-831-4833 or at rbrennan@wpi.edu.

The biomanufacturing sector in Massachusetts is growing at the highest rate of any subsector tracked by the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council, the state group said in November. Central Massachusetts in particular has been called out for its potential as a biomanufacturing hub for the commonwealth.
