Mass. adds 10,000 jobs in February

Massachusetts added 10,100 jobs last month but its unemployment rate ticked slightly upward to 3.4 percent, the state's Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development announced Thursday.

Most job gains were seen in education, health sciences, and professional, scientific and business services sectors.

In the past 12 months, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the state has added 57,700 jobs.

The state's unemployment rate rose slightly in February to 3.4 percent, from 3.2 percent the previous month. That's still better than the national rate of 4.7 percent.

Among the best-growing industries, education and health services jobs rose by 8,400 last month, or 1 percent. Professional, scientific and business services jobs gained 3,700, or just less than 1 percent.

Unemployment rates for February by each community in Massachusetts are scheduled to be released March 28.
