Dell leads top 10 local manufacturers

After its $67-billion purchase of Hopkinton-based EMC Corp., Texas computer firm Dell Technologies now leads the list of Central Massachusetts' largest manufacturers.

The company topped Worcester Business Journal's annual list of largest area manufacturers, reporting it had about 9,000 local employees, making it several times larger than any other manufacturer in the area.

Here are the top 10, as ranked by number of local employees as of March:

1. Dell Technologies in Hopkinton with 9,000 employees and $72 billion in revenue

2. IPG Photonics Corp. in Oxford with 1,500 employees and $1 billion in revenue

3. Waters Corp. in Milford with 1,500 employees and $2.2 billion in revenue

4. Boston Scientific Corp. in Marlborough with 1,471 employees and $8.4 billion in revenue

5. Saint-Gobain in Worcester with 1,429 employees (did not report revenue)

6. Metso Automation USA Inc. in Shrewsbury with 1,200 employees and $2.4 billion in revenue

7. Bose Corp. in Framingham with around 1,000 employees and $3.5 billion in revenue

8. Raytheon Co. in Marlborough with around 1,000 employees and $24 billion in revenue

9. Hologic Inc. in Marlborough with 854 employees and $2.8 billion in revenue

10. KARL STORZ Endoscopy-America Inc. in Charlton and 700 employees (did not report revenue)

Note: Bose and Raytheon employment figures fall within range of 1,000-4,999, according to data published by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
