WPI has relatively high tuition costs, but SmartAsset found in its report that those costs were balanced out by a high graduate starting salary and generous scholarships and grants.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute is the fourth-best value among Massachusetts colleges, according to a new study by SmartAsset, based on tuition and other student costs, along with scholarships and starting salary for graduates.
WPI has relatively high tuition costs, at nearly $43,000 a year, according to the study. But SmartAsset found in its report Tuesday those costs were balanced out by a high graduate starting salary of $65,300 on average, and average scholarships and grants per student of about $20,000.
The New York-based financial website ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology first in Massachusetts for the third straight year. Harvard University was second, and Massachusetts Maritime Academy third.
MIT and Harvard were boosted by very generous scholarships and grants for students, along with high starting salaries. SmartAsset ranked only the top 10 Massachusetts schools, and no other Central Massachusetts school was on the list.
