Courtesy Heywood HealthCare said it will launch a telehealth program to expand access to behavioral health services for youth in the North Quabbin and North Central regions. The healthcare system's new planned emergency department in Athol, a project that is underway, is shown here.

Gardner-based Heywood HealthCare said it will implement a school-based telehealth program to address behavioral health needs of youth living in the North Central and North Quabbin regions.

The announcement came last week after the Health Policy Commission presented Heywood with $425,000 in funding for the program, called TeleBehavioral Health Services.

The model will use interactive video conferencing to increase access to behavioral health services for school-aged children and their families, Heywood said. The project is a partnership between Heywood, the Narragansett Regional and Ralph C. Mahar regional school districts, as well as Clinical Support Options, Northeast Telehealth Resource Center and McLean Hospital.
