The Massachusetts Board of Higher Education unanimously confirmed Luis Pedraja as the next president of Quinsigamond Community College on May 9, according to the college.

Pedraja succeeds Gail Carberry, who is retiring after 10 years as president. He officially starts July 10, according to a spokesman for the college.

He joins QCC from an Oakland, Calif. community college district that includes four colleges. A native of Cuba, Pedraja grew up in Miami and was the first in his family to go to college.
