Former UMass doctor allegedly touched patient inappropriately

The former UMass Memorial Medical Center doctor who lost his license May 11 was disciplined for alleged sexual misconduct.

According to records from the state Board of Registration in Medicine, Carlos Melero-Montes allegedly touched a female patient inappropriately during a pelvic examination in the hospital’s emergency room on May 16, 2016. He was involuntarily suspended from UMass Memorial by the chief medical officer on June 9.

Melero-Montes, a former emergency room doctor and assistant professor at UMass Medical School, voluntarily resigned his medical license to the board of registration in medicine May 11 after agreeing to stop practicing medicine in July.

UMass Memorial declined to comment Friday morning.
