Behavioral Concepts, Inc. of Worcester, which specializes in the care of children on the autism spectrum in Central Massachusetts, has appointed a new director of professional development and research.

The new director, Candice Colón-Kwedor, has more than 10 years of experience providing consultative and clinical services in homes and private schools, specializing in assessing and treating severe challenging behavior in children and adolescents. She joins BCI from the May Institute’s May Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities in Randolph, where she supervised clinical directors, assistant clinical directors and behavior specialists, and oversaw school-wide applied behavior analysis clinical services for about 160 residential and day students. She lives in Upton.

In her new role, she will oversee training and professional development for behavior therapists and board certified behavior analysts (BCBAs), and also therapist level in-service trainings and internal BCBA level continuing education. She will also be in charge of BCI’s new research initiative.

Colón-Kwedor received a doctoral degree in behavior analysis from Western New England University and a master’s in applied behavior analysis from Northeastern University. She is a BCBA and a licensed applied behavior analysis in Massachusetts.

In addition to her new role at BCI, Colón-Kwedor serves as adjunct faculty at UMass Amherst and at Endicott College, and on the board of the Berkshire Association of Behavior Analysis and Therapy as member at large. She is also a member of the Association for Behavior Analysis International and the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts. Her research has been published in the "Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis" and she is a contributing author to a BCBA supervision reference manual. She has also served as a guest reviewer for "The Analysis of Verbal Behavior and Behavioral Interventions."
