High employment in technology sectors and a lofty median household income pushed Massachusetts near the top of a WalletHub ranking of state economies in the U.S.

The analysis of the 50 states and the District of Columbia found Massachusetts has the fourth best economy in the country. WalletHub analyzed indicators like GDP growth, exports per capita, and unemployment rates to determine its findings.

Massachusetts scored better than average on several performance metrics, including median household income (seventh), percent of jobs in high tech (first), and exports per capita (21st).

According to the list, Washington state has the best economy in the country, followed by California. West Virginia has the worst, followed closely by Louisiana.
