State awards $484K for vocational equipment

Two Marlborough schools received state funds to help them boost their workforce development programs.
Two Marlborough schools last week received state funds to advance their vocational equipment and programming, according to an announcement on Friday from the Baker Administration.
The funds were part of the administration’s Skills Capital Grants program, which was designed to improve capital equipment for vocational programs in order to meet the workforce needs of each region. The administration gave $2.2 million in total to 10 high schools in last week’s round of grants.
The administration awarded Marlborough Public Schools $239,679 to support the advanced precision manufacturing and electrical engineering lab. There, students will be able to earn a 30-hour general industry certification from Occupational Safety & Health Administration, and a level one certification from Manufacturing Advancement Center Workforce Innovation Collaborative (MACWIC), the statewide manufacturing training curriculum.
Also in Marlborough, Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School received $244,510 for the construction of a new greenhouse for hands-on learning in biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, computer programming and web development.
Since starting the Skills Capital Grants program, the Baker Administration has awarded more than $26 million to 67 different institutions.
