Corner Spot pop-up space launches in Ashland

A new community gathering spot featuring public performance, retail, and pop-up business space was launched in Ashland on Wednesday.

The Corner Spot, as it’s called, was renovated from a 17,000-square-foot vacant lot in downtown Ashland with $50,000 financing from the town of Ashland and MassDevelopment’s Commonwealth Places program. Commonwealth Places, which leverages public support for placemaking projects through crowdfunding and matching grants, received $1 million in funding for its second year.

At the Corner Spot, small businesses will be able to open temporary pop-up store locations to test new concepts. A new business will pop up every four to six weeks, according to a crowdfunding page for the project. There’s also room to sit down and enjoy the outdoors.

MassDevelopment has funded several other projects through its Commonwealth Places program, including an accessible dock in Athol and a honeybee meadow in Maynard.
