Ascentria Care Alliance announced Thursday that it has acquired a Jamaica Plain rehabilitation center in order to grow its Boston presence and expand its elder service offerings.

The facility, the Laurel Ridge Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center, will continue to operate under the on-site management of Sheehan Health Group, LLC, according to Ascentria.

Although Ascentria is headquartered in Worcester, the nonprofit has aspired to do more in Boston for some time, said Angela Bovill, president and CEO.

Laurel Ridge provides short-term rehabilitation, traditional long-term care, a designated memory care unit, rehabilitative therapies including physical, occupational, and speech, social services, and care by ancillary providers. The center serves patients in Mission Hill, Dorchester, Mattapan, Roxbury, West Roxbury, Roslindale, Brookline, Hyde Park and beyond.

In addition to its elder services, Ascentria serves children, youth and families, persons with developmental disabilities and mental illnesses, and refugees, including unaccompanied refugee minors.
