Mount Wachusett Community College will hold an event Tuesday in Gardner to discuss new college programming aimed at helping the area's workforce.

The event, called Enhancing the Workforce, will give an opportunity for the public to learn about the college's new programs and how Mount Wachusett is responding to businesses' needs for skilled labor, said Melissa Fama, the school's vice president of academic affairs.

The free event will cover how Mount Wachusett works with businesses to secure funding and establish curriculum for specific training needs. It will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdsy in the college's multipurpose room.

Topics to be covered include associate degrees for health information management and veterinary technicians, and certificate programs for medical coding, paramedics, software support and other fields.

More than 150 companies have held grant-funded training at Mount Wachusett, including UMass Memorial Medical Center, Nashoba Valley Medical Center, GFA Federal Credit Union and Nypro Inc.
