Ameresco, Blue Wave and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts are celebrating the completion of five solar arrays in Hopedale and Mendon next month.

According to statement from Blue Cross spokesman Greg Winter, a long-term agreement has the health plan purchasing 2.6 megawatts of net metering credits from the five community solar projects that will enable residents and businesses in the Blackstone Valley and the National Grid territory of Southeastern Massachusetts to lower electricity costs.

The solar farms -- a combined 6.9 megawatts of renewable energy -- are owned by Ameresco and were co-developed with Blue Wave Solar.

The five projects will increase the amount of power generated by community solar projects in the state by about 13 percent and reduce carbon emissions by about 6,300 metric tons, Winter said.

That’s the equivalent of taking 1,378 cars off of the road, he said.
