Avidia Bank opening Framingham branch this month

Avidia Bank will open a new Framingham branch Sept. 25 as a first step in the Hudson company's expansion.

The bank borrowed $25 million this summer, with most of that going toward an expansion taking the company eastbound toward Boston. No physical branches beyond the new Framingham location are planned for now.

The Avidia branch at 270 Cochituate Road, a two-story glass-fronted building, replaces a Blue Agave Mexican restaurant, which was previously a Bickford's. It sits next to a Post Office branch and a plaza that includes Target, Lowe's Home Improvement and other retailers.

Avidia, which has nearly $1.1 billion in loans and $1.4 billion in assets, has branches in Clinton, Hudson, Leominster, Marlborough, Northborough, Shrewsbury and Westborough.
