A private nonprofit fitness and community center in Whitinsville can now upgrade its computer and software systems with a $100,000 loan from MassDevelopment.

The state’s finance and development agency announced in a press release earlier this month the loan will be used to update the Whitin Community Center’s computer hardware and software systems and enhance its accounting, online registration, payment and membership systems.

The nearly century-old center boasts a wide variety of fitness options for its 5,000-plus members, including a fitness center, gymnasium, pool, racquetball court, tennis court and other programs.

“The Whitin Community Center is very thankful to MassDevelopment for providing funding for projects that we could not otherwise afford as a nonprofit,” said Whitin Community Center Executive Director Heather Elster. “We cannot wait for our customers to experience all the benefits of these exciting changes.”
