ReWalk's soft-suit exokskelton to be tested at Harvard

ReWalk Robotics, an Israel-based company with U.S. headquarters in Marlborough, on Monday it will begin testing of its soft-suit exoskeleton for stroke victims, as part of a collaboration with Harvard University.

The soft-suit is similar to ReWalk's hard exoskeleton systems for people with spinal cord injuries, but the soft suit design transmits power to key joins of the legs with cable technologies and fabric-based designs, the company said. The company is collaborating with researchers at Harvard University's Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering.

The next phase of testing includes evaluating the company’s exosuit system based on Wyss Institute research and technology, the company said.

The company announced a collaboration with the Institute last year to support the technology’s development and testing to allow for people with lower limb disabilities to walk again.

Clinical trials are planned for next year and the company hopes to eventually offer the device commercially.
