Cumberland Farms reopens expanded store in Hopedale

File photo Westborough-based Cumberland Farms has reopened its Hopedale store, not pictured here.

Cumberland Farms in Hopedale has reopened and now occupies a much larger space after purchasing three abutting homes for its expansion.

The store, nearly 5,000 square feet, opened last week in Hopedale along Rte. 16 at the Hopedale Street intersection. Cumberland Farms last year spent $1.2 million to acquire three abutting homes for its planned expansion.

The new store and gas station features kiosk ordering terminals, interior high-top bar counters, four fueling pumps and 23 parking spaces.

In a press release, the company said the new store is a continuation of its effort to open or renovate what it calls “next generation stores” that feature expanded food and beverage choices.

Officials have keyed in on the area to encourage development recently. Directly across the street, a developer is marketing a vacant property as a mixed-use commercial development and has spent $855,000 on land acquisitions to attract tenants.
