Worcester-area unemployment rates decreased to 3.7 percent in September, according to a report from the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

Although employment (337,947 to 335,009) and the labor force (352,260 to 347,933) decreased slightly last month, unemployment dipped from 4.1 percent in August to 3.7 percent.

A total of 12,925 people were unemployed in September, compared to 14,313 in August.

In September 2016, the Worcester-area unemployment rate was also at 3.7 percent.

The state added 200 manufacturing jobs in September, but lost 700 so far this year, the office said.

Statewide, the unemployment rate dipped to 3.5 percent from the 3.7 percent reported in August, but is higher than the 3.3 percent reported in September 2016.
