Milford Crossing anchors to open Thursday

Grant Welker Milford Crossing under construction earlier this year. Two major tenants, T.J.Maxx and HomeGoods, open Thursday.

T.J.Maxx and HomeGoods open Thursday at Milford Crossing, the first major tenants to open at the remade shopping center.

The two stores, which total 47,000 square feet, moved from the nearby Quarry Square Shopping Center.

Another anchor for the development, a new Stop & Shop is opening soon, but without an exact date yet, according to owner and developer RD Management, based in New York City. Stop & Shop is also relocating from the Quarry Square Shopping Center.

Milford Crossing will get a Red Heat Tavern at the former Bugaboo Creek Steak House, a Starbucks, a Chipotle Mexican Grill and a Pet Supplies Plus store. They will join the two holdovers from before the plaza's renovations, a Dollar Tree and Salon Centric.

The plaza was almost entirely empty after Kmart closed in 2014, followed by Bugaboo Creek and World Gym in 2016.

The building housed Kmart and World Gym was gutted and entirely remade, along with the building that featured Dollar Tree and Salon Centric. A third new building has also gone up.

RD Management is spending $20 million to upgrade and expand the plaza, which sits just off I-495 at Exit 19.

The plaza totals about 15 retail spaces in 158,000 square feet.
