MetroWest Daily News to relocate, sell building

Google The MetroWest Daily News office on New York Ave. The property is being marketed and the staff is moving to a new office.

The MetroWest Daily News and other publications in a large, mostly unused 90,000-square-foot building in Framingham will relocate to an office on Speen Street in early December.

The new office, at One Speen Street in Framingham, the Point West Office Center, is located just off Exit 13 of the MassPike. The space is set up for the publication’s growing needs in the evolving mobile and digital news world, said Publisher Chuck Goodrich.

The move includes a new phone system, high-speed data lines, wireless connectivity and an on-site streaming radio station.

“Given how technology has evolved, our journalists and salespeople are better equipped than ever to be visible and productive while working in their local communities,” said Goodrich. “Having a centrally located regional office with the latest technology will enable us to support their local mission more effectively and efficiently.”

Other affiliated publications currently housed in the New York Avenue location will join the paper in the move. Phone numbers and email addresses will not change.

The move comes just months after the paper’s parent company, GateHoue Media, announced its intention to seek a buyer for the property. It’s located in an office park and is flanked by several large companies, including tech giant Bose Corp. and biotech firm Sanofi Genzyme.

The company stopped printing in the New York Avenue location in June and consolidated printing operations to its Auburn facility. The company did not disclose the number of impacted employees.

No potential buyer for the 435,600-square-foot lot has been named. The property is currently assessed by the city for just over $4 million.
