Worcester company to pay $100K asbestos settlement

Google Hampton Properties, LLC lists its address at this 5 Claremont St. property.

Worcester development company Hampton Properties, LLC, will pay a $100,000 settlement after it was alleged to have performed illegal asbestos work on two Worcester rental properties.

The company allegedly violated the state’s clean air law regulations by improperly causing or allowing unlicensed workers to remove asbestos-containing boiler and pipe components from two apartment buildings, the state Attorney General’s office announced Tuesday

Hampton Properties also allegedly unlawfully removed asbestos-containing materials and stored dry, unsealed asbestos in a dumpster behind the apartment buildings, the office said.

After the violations, the company properly removed the material and completed the renovation work under supervision by Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection officials.

In addition to the penalty, the company will hire a consultant to perform an audit of eight properties selected by the AG’s office and MassDEP.

Those actions settle a lawsuit filed by the AG’s office in Suffolk Superior Court.
