The Greater Worcester Community Foundation has awarded more than $1.4 million to 137 local nonprofit organizations, the foundation announced this week.

Of the $1,444,500, several received $25,000 - the largest single donation made. Organizations receiving that amount include Acentria Community Services, Boys and Girls Club of Worcester, Family Health Center of Worcester and the Southeast Asian Coalition of Central Massachusetts.

Several grants went to organizations in immigrant and refugee advocacy work, including:

  • Angels Net Foundation: $5,000 for an afterschool and summer program
  • Community Legal Aid: $15,000 to fund legal advocacy for immigrant victims
  • Refugee and Immigrant Assistance Center: two grants totaling $20,000 for English as a second language programs,
  • YWCA: Five grants totaling $58,5000 for racial equity education

Other organizations receiving grants work in the field of early child and youth development, economic security and health.

Ann Lisi, president of the foundation, said the number of nonprofits receiving grants has increased from last year.

“We are honored to continually be a part of a strong network of thoughtful and strategic donors committed to making an impact in our communities,” she said.
