Stop & Shop opens in $20M renovated Milford plaza

Courtesy/Stop and Shop The new Stop & Shop in Milford offers an expanded produce selection.

Stop & Shop on Friday completed the relocation of its Milford store from its longtime home to the newly renovated Milford Crossing plaza one mile away.

The 66,000-square-foot store opened Friday in the former KMart building in a plaza completely rehabilitated for $20 million by New York City developer RD Management, which included a full renovation of two existing buildings, a 6,000-square-foot addition to another and the ongoing construction of a third 20,000-square-foot building.

The new store, according to Stop and Shop, has expanded produce and organic food offerings, a smoothie bar and fresh sushi prepared by a chef.

TJ Maxx and Homegoods opened in a combined 46,694-square-foot space in the plaza last month. Both stores followed Stop & Shop's exit from the Quarry Square Shopping Plaza, which is just over a mile from the newly renovated plaza.

Also planned for the plaza are several new tenants, including Starbucks, Chipotle, Red Heat Tavern and Pet Supplies Plus. About 15,000 square feet of office and retail space remains unleased, according to RD Management’s website.

Now, Fafard Real Estate, the firm that owns the Quarry Square plaza, is looking for tenants to fill the 135,000-square-foot void left by the three stores, according to listings on its website.
