Wachusett leads Top 10 largest Central Mass. breweries

Wachusett Brewing Co. in Westminster is the largest brewery in Central Massachusetts, according to data compiled by Worcester Business Journal.

The 55-employee brewery produced 51,239 barrels of beer in 2016, including its signature New England Lager, Blueberry Ale and Green Monsta Ale. Wachusett is owned by Peter Quinn, Ned LaFortune and Kevin Buckler.

Here is the Top 10 largest breweries in Central Massachusetts, as ranked by barrels produced in 2016, according to the information compiled by WBJ's Research Department. For the full list, see WBJ's Data Center.

1. Wachusett Brewing Co. in Westminster, with 51,239 barrels

2. Jack's Abby Craft Lager in Framingham, with 34,000 barrels

3. Wormtown Brewery in Worcester, with 16,520 barrels

4. Rapscallion Brewery in Sturbridge, with 5,000 barrels

5. Spencer Trappist Brewery in Spencer, with 3,216 barrels

6. Greater Good Imperial Brewing Co. in Worcester, with 3,200 barrels

7. Medusa Brewing Co. in Hudson, with 984 barrels

8. John Harvard's Brewery & Ale House in Framingham, with 871 barrels

9. Moon Hill Brewing Co. Inc. in Gardner, with 700 barrels

10. Cold Harbor Brewing Co. in Westborough, with 600 barrels

Tree House Brewing Co. in Charlton and Battle Road Brewery in Maynard, both of which opened in 2017, did not confirm their production numbers for this list, making them unable to be ranked.
