The owner of Milford's Depot Street Tavern in April will open his second restaurant in the former Perfect Game spot in Worcester's Canal District, the restaurateur said via phone Monday.

Adam Hicks said the new Maddie's Cookery and Tap House -- named after his children Matthew and Addison -- will feature the same basic comfort home food featured in the 60-seat Milford restaurant, although the Canal District location will have nearly double the seating.

Hicks has been looking for a second location for some time, and several locations throughout Central Massachusetts never panned out. After Hicks took home the first-place prize for The People's Choice Awards in the Worcester's Best Chef competition, the city reached out to him about bringing his culinary expertise to the city.

The thriving Milford restaurant will continue operations as normal, Hicks said.

"I started walking around up there and you can feel the city starting to change and transform itself," Hicks said about Worcester's cultural and culinary revival. "That's something cool to be a part of."

The area, littered with bars and restaurants, is a prime spot in which to offer his craft burgers, sandwiches and entrees, he said.

To begin, the restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner every day, but Hicks said he's hoping to bring Depot Street's popular brunch menu to the Canal District.

Like the MIlford restaurant, Hicks said he wants the spot to cater to all customer types.

"It's going to be a place where you can come if you and your buddies are home from school, before your son's hockey game or to close the deal on your house," he said.
