Mass. is the 6th most moved-out-of state

The 2017 National Movers Study by United Van Lines shows more people moved out of Massachusetts than into the state last year, with 56 percent of people relocating opting to leave the commonwealth compared to 44 percent moving in.

Massachusetts ranked sixth worst in the nation behind only Kansas, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Illinois.

Ohio, Kentucky, Utah and Wisconsin rounded out the top 10.

Most of the Northeast sees more residents leaving than moving in, with nearly 57 percent of all 2017 moves being outbound, the study found.

Vermont, however, is bucking that trend, ranking as the top moving destination, according to the study.

The rest of most popular destinations for relocation are largely in the West and South, with (in order) Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, South Dakota, Washington, the Carolinas, Colorado and Alabama as the top destinations after Vermont.
