1A Auto to open Pepperell R&D facility

Online auto parts retailer 1A Auto is opening a new research and development facility in the company’s hometown of Pepperell later this year.

The Westford company said the 16,000-square-foot facility will create mroe than 20 new jobs when it opens in the spring.

The company was founded in Pepperell in 1999 by Rick Green, who’s running for the U.S. House of Representatives for the 3rd Congressional District as a the only Republican in a field of 13 Democrats for Democrat Rep. Niki Tsonga’s seat.

In a statement, Green said the company outgrew its former Pepperell facility recently, but promised the town the company would return.

“Today we are keeping the promise,” Green said.

According to Green’s campaign website, the company is one of the country’s largest online seller of auto parts and employs more than 450 around the country, including at locations in Pepperell, Littleton and Westford.
