Insulet, UnitedHealthcare partner for insulin device coverage

Insulet is expected to begin operating this space in Acton by the beginning of 2019.

Beginning next month, patients enrolled in UnitedHealthcare, including its Medicaid plans, will be covered for an insulin delivery system manufactured by Billerica-based Insulet.

The medical device manufacturing company, underway with a $100-million project for a 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Acton, announced the expanded coverage earlier this week.

The company now becomes an in-network provider with UnitedHealthcare in an agreement that expands access to Insulet's Omnipod System.

According to Insulet, patients enrolled with UnitedHealthcare had access to the system prior to the agreement, but it was through a third-party supplier.

The agreement goes into effect on April 1.
