Franklin marijuana grower to seek recreational licenses

A medical marijuana company growing in a 76,000-square-foot Franklin facility is hoping to tap into the recreational market.

New England Treatment Access grows marijuana at the 5 Forge Parkway location and sells it to patients out of its Brookline and Northampton stores.

According to a public notice filed Monday, the company plans to apply for a marijuana cultivator, product manufacturer and research facility licenses once companies are allowed to do so by the state next month.

The filing did not indicate the company plans to sell product out of the Franklin facility.

Franklin has not banned the recreational sale of the drug, but the Franklin Town Council last year passed zoning limiting such facilities to industrial parks and via a special permit.

New England Treatment Access’ facility is located in such an area.

The company is holding a public hearing at the Franklin Senior Center at 7 p.m. on March 27 to announce its plans and hear input from the community.
