MassLive to open downtown Worcester newsroom

MassLive will occupy space in this Worcester building on Mechanic Street.
Online news organization MassLive is opening a Worcester newsroom and sales office next month, MassLive announced on its website Tuesday.
The announcement, penned by MassLive’s Vice President of Content Ed Kubosiak, comes as the company, owned by New York-based Advance Local, pursues a growth strategy in Worcester County.
“The office opening in April signals MassLive Media's ongoing commitment to Worcester and the importance of the city as part of the company's overall statewide news coverage,” Kubosiak wrote. “The downtown office will be home to dedicated sales and news teams.”
The office will open at 10 Mechanic St., currently the home of Wells Fargo Advisors, Spectrum Health Systems and the Worcester office for the state Attorney General’s Office.
MassLive reporters now covering Worcester work remotely. Previously, the company had access to Running Start, a shared office space on Prescott Street, but that space has since closed.
MassLive operates an office in Springfield, where Advance Local owns the Springfield Republican. MassLive serves as the online version of the Republican.
In the announcement, Kubosiak cited a period of tremendous change across the media landscape. The opening of an office is in stark contrast to the Fitchburg Sentinel & Enterprise, which no longer has an office after parent company Digital First Media opted to close the downtown Fitchburg space and have staff work out of their homes.
New York-based GateHouse Media - owners of the Telegram & Gazette and MetroWest Daily News - has recently increased its footprint in Central Massachusetts with a $1.2-million purchase of the Worcester Magazine and five other locally-focused Central Massachusetts publications.
“Engagement with the local community is part of the core mission of the company,” Kubosiak wrote.
