Kennedy Community Health Center a leader on LGBTQ equality

The Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center (CHC), based in Worcester, has been named an industry leader by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) in LGBTQ-inclusive policies and practices.

The medical and dental services provider, which has facilities in Framingham, Clinton and Milford as well as Worcester, scored 100 in the 11th edition of the HRC’s Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) released Tuesday -- the highest possible score, indicating that Kennedy CHC received the highest possible scores in four criteria, including: foundational elements of LGBTQ patient-centered care; LGBTQ patient services and support; employee benefits and policies, and LGBTQ patient and community engagement.

More than 600 healthcare organizations participated in the 2018 HEI, which is voluntary. Kennedy CHC was the only organization in Central Massachusetts included in the 2018 index, and one of the state’s top scorers.

“An LGBTQ health equality designation represents the value we place on all of our patients, staff, and community members. As a leadership team, we actively pursue health equity as a strategy that can both improve the quality of health care for the diverse populations we serve and to eliminate health disparities,” Kennedy CHC president and CEO Antonia McGuire said in a statement Tuesday.
