Natick-based online proctoring and identity verification company Examity has acquired an Atlanta firm specializing in online proctoring for academic institutions, professional associations and worldwide government agencies.

The acquisition of BVirtual -- the terms of which were not disclosed -- will expand the company’s reach to more than 100 new partnership across U.S. and Europe.

Examity Founder and CEO Michael London was named to Gov. Charlie Baker’s Commission on Digital Innovation and Lifelong Learning, and the company now hopes to use its new capabilities to help the state’s colleges and universities expand its digital tools.

According to London, almost one-third of all college students take at least one course online.

“We're playing a critical role in promoting not just security, but also quality, as digital learning takes hold on campus and in the world of work,” he said in a statement.

The company, which now works with more than 300 colleges and universities, plans to launch a new office in Atlanta in conjunction with the acquisition of BVirtual.
