Crust Bakeshop to expand, open wine and cheese shop

It only took about a year before 28-year-old Alexis Kelleher began an effort to expand her business, which she purchased in January 2017 from one of Worcester’s most high-profile restaurant groups.

Kelleher, who purchased Crust Artisan Bakeshop from the Armsby Abbey owners last year after working at that restaurant as a baker, is just weeks away from opening a wine and cheese shop in the vacant Main Street storefront next door.

A consignment store moved out of the space at the turn of the new year, and the idea began to take shape around the end of January.

The store, called North Main Provisions, will focus heavily on wine and cheese along with other grocery items like dry goods and fresh local produce.

The store will employ just two workers to begin, and a soft opening is planned for Mother’s Day, Kelleher said.

“The opportunity was really too good to pass up,” said Kelleher, adding that a wine and cheese shop was something she has always wanted to open.

Actually executing an expansion, however, wasn’t something she really considered until just a few months ago when the lease became available.

“Something lit up in my brain, and I lost any good sense or desire to have a personal life, so I decided to just go for it,” Kelleher said.
